A man wanted in the February 26 shooting of two people riding through the Walmart parking lot surrendered to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department this afternoon.
Chief Bobby Martin said 19-year-old O’Quevion Barnes gave no reason to investigators on why he decided to surrender shortly before 2:30 p.m.
Martin declined comment on what prompted the shooting as the case is now going through the judicial system.
Martin said in a statement Barnes of Roanoke Rapids received an $80,000 bond and April 22 court date for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and a count of discharging a firearm in the city limits.
The two victims — an 18-year-old and 17-year-old — have been released from medical care, the police chief said.
Last week a 19-year-old Roanoke Rapids woman — Angelica Maria Dominguez — was charged with conspiracy and obstruction of justice in the case for reportedly giving Barnes a ride to Walmart on the day of the shooting and for interfering with the investigation.
The shooting occurred around 11:45 a.m. when shots were fired at two people in a vehicle going past the grocery area of Walmart
