An additional death related to the novel coronavirus is from the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Services.
The related death marks the 33rd from the Roanoke Rapids area and brings the total number in Halifax County to 62, the health department reported today.
The breakdown of related deaths is as follows: 33 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; nine within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code; seven within the Enfield area ZIP code; six within the Weldon area ZIP code; two within the Halifax area ZIP code; two within the Hollister area ZIP code; two within the Littleton area ZIP code; and one within the Hobgood area ZIP code.
The health department also added 49 new positive cases today, bringing the total cumulative number since March to 3,674.

There continues to be a sustained increase in the number of positive cases in the county, according to the health department.
The health department continues to encourage residents to practice the Three W’s — waiting 6-feet apart, washing hands frequently, and wearing a facial covering.
Northampton County
The health department reported Thursday there were 1,318 total positive cases of which 1,133 have recovered. There were 125 active cases. There have been 60 related deaths.
