The Halifax County Health Department was recognized with two honors during the county’s modified annual employee awards today.

The health department’s COVID-19 team received a special achievement award and Health Director Bruce Robistow was named department head of the year.

Robistow said this afternoon the COVID-19 team primarily consists of Frances Vick, Shea Briggs, Regina Price and Gaynelle Byrd.

“This team has been working nonstop seven days a week since March to try to educate, mitigate and to investigate and do contact tracing and continually adjust to the ever-changing direction of this pandemic,” he said. “Although these four are the primary COVID team they are supported by many in the health department through cross-training to help the COVID team in any way they can.”

On his own award Robistow said, “It’s an absolute honor to be recognized by both my health department team and the Halifax County team overall.”

Halifax County Manager Tony Brown announced the annual employee awards as part of a modified luncheon where meals were delivered to employees due to the ongoing pandemic.

The special achievement award and the employee of the year winners are chosen from submissions made by county employees.

The department head of the year is chosen by the county manager and deputy county manager.

Employee of the year went to Tonya Stephens of the county finance department.

Winners were presented with awards and banners to display in their offices.
