Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office

Captain A.M. Harris reported on Tuesday shortly after 5 p.m., Agent A.D. Cash conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Roanoke Avenue near Birdsong Street for a motor vehicle violation. During the encounter with the driver, identified as Jamazia Shyheim Tillery, 21, of Roanoke Rapids, Cash could reportedly smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

During the search with the assistance of Agent B.J. Murphy, approximately 48 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and a handgun was seized.

Cash arrested and charged Tillery with felony possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed gun, expired registration number plate and possession of firearm by felon.

Tillery received a $4,000 bond and a December 16 court date.

Weldon Police Department

Chief Christopher Davis reported on Monday shortly after 8:30 p.m., Corporal S. McKimmey responded to the area of Highway 158 near Interstate 95 due to a collision involving two vehicles.

According to the officer’s investigation, both drivers were reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

After performing some roadside tests, McKimmey arrested both drivers — Johnnie Lewis Harris, 51, and Marvin Darnell Gatling Jr. 40, both of Roanoke Rapids — for DWI.

Both men submitted to breath tests and both received a written promise to appear in court on February 12.

Officer T. Revis and Sergeant J. Spragins of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department assisted.
