Today’s report from the Halifax County Health Department notes a decrease in the trend of new positive COVID-19 cases with five new ones added since Monday’s update.

Health Director Bruce Robistow was not immediately available for comment this afternoon.

The five new positives bring the cumulative number to 1,601 since March 25.

There have been 31 related deaths with the following breakdown: 17 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; four within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code; three within the Enfield area ZIP code; three within the Weldon area ZIP code; two within the Littleton area ZIP code; one within the Halifax area ZIP code; and one within the Hollister area ZIP code.

The health department continues to encourage residents to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.
