Weldon Global Elementary Academy pre-kindergarten students received a virtual tour and lesson on pumpkins and pumpkin farming Wednesday.

Their teachers went live from Hawkins Farm in Littleton to teach cross-curriculum activities including a summary on their previous studies on insects.

The teachers were Betty Scott, Teressa Miles, Latonia Vincent, Carolyn Battle, Jernice Green, and Jacqueline Price.

Harvey T. Hawkins explained to the students the process of growing healthy pumpkins and vegetables.

The teachers incorporated healthy eating and staying active best practices.

Pumpkins were not the only highlight of the field trip — cabbage, collards, and salad were also a hit.

The teachers purchased pumpkins and continued with the studies in a pumpkin carving activity during the Thursday virtual lesson.

The teachers planted pumpkin seeds for further observations in the classroom and at home. During a drive-through pickup, each scholar received a planted pumpkin seed along with additional material to learn at home.
