Enfield police today identified a person killed by a train Tuesday as a 24-year-old Pembroke man.

Captain Dreher Bozard said in a statement police believe Vancy Locklear was a stowaway on the train and either fell or was trying to exit as it was in motion.

Bozard said police responded to South East Railroad near Plant street around noon Tuesday after receiving a report a man was lying unresponsive on the tracks.

Locklear was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lieutenant Willie Murphy Jr. said this afternoon investigators are trying to determine where, when and how the man boarded the train.

Enfield officers are working with Amtrak and CSX police.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation Tuesday.
