The Weldon Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Christopher Davis:

On August 8 shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sergeant T. Mason responded to the 1500 block of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway on an armed robbery call.

The victim advised two men came into the undisclosed store with handguns and demanded money. 

They fled with an undisclosed amount of money. The direction the suspects left in is unknown and as is whether they were on foot or in a vehicle.

Sunday shortly after 12:30 a.m. Officer S. McKimmey was sitting in the area of Highway 158 and Brownell Street when he observed a vehicle traveling west exceeding the posted speed limit. 

McKimmey conducted a traffic stop on Highway 158 near Interstate 95. 

McKimmey learned the suspect was reported intoxicated. The person was identified as Robert Fitzgerald Hilliard, 54, of Whitakers.

Hilliard was placed under arrest, taken to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office for a breath test and then to a magistrate where he was charged with speeding and DWI. 

He was released to a responsible person and has a December 11 court date.
