Cornerstone Christian student Joanna Duhadaway won the American Legion Division One Oratorical Contest held in Roanoke Rapids Saturday.  

Local Shaw-May Post 38 hosted the event in which North Carolina Department Commander James Moore was also in attendance.  

Joanna delivered a personal speech on How the US Constitution Relates To Me. 

She won top honors and was awarded the Oratorical Contest Gold Medal, a certificate and a check for $200.  

She also earned the opportunity to compete in the state-level competition which will be held at Sandhills Community College on March 7.  

Finalists at the national level competition are eligible to win $20,000 in college scholarships.
