A Roanoke Rapids police officer was involved in a shooting which occurred in the area of Hinson Street this morning.
Administrative Lieutenant Mike Moseley told local media the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate “as is our policy and standard protocol.”
He said the officer involved will be placed on administrative paid leave for a period of time until the investigation is completed.
Moseley declined immediate comment on whether the shooting was linked to a chase eastbound on Tenth Street this morning shortly before 8:45 a.m. He said an additional press briefing may be held later today.

Moseley did say the person who was shot is OK. At the scene this morning the person could be seen sitting upright on a stretcher as he was taken to a waiting Halifax County ambulance.
The lieutenant declined comment on whether the person shot fired at or threatened harm to the officer who shot him. “That’s going to be involved with the investigation with the SBI.”
Moseley and city officials also declined to immediately name the officer involved.
