A man who tried to swallow a golf ball-sized amount of crack cocaine today was arrested along with two others on Maria Avenue.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said in a statement the City County Drug Task Force went to the Brandy Creek subdivision with a search warrant based on investigation by Captain A.M. Harris and community complaints.

Two of the three men arrested in the raid, which was carried out with assistance from the Hazardous Entry and Arrest Team — Kunta Kinte Shearin and Phillip Khai— have lengthy records.

Shearin, according to Tripp's statement, did not comply with orders from Agent D.J. Hundley, who deployed a stun gun on the 36-year-old Roanoke Rapids man as he attempted to eat and swallow the 14.4 grams of crack.

The crack was seized from Shearin's mouth, Tripp said.

Agents also located marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia during a search of the residence. The paraphernalia included a push rod, a digital scale, Chore Boy kitchen scrubbers and a razor blade.

Harris charged Shearin with resisting a public officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and felony possession of cocaine.

Shearin was confined to the Halifax County Detention Center with a $25,000 secured bond.

Khai, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with possession of marijuana up to a half-ounce and served an outstanding criminal summons for possessing tobacco by an inmate that had been obtained by jail Lieutenant J. Pilgreen.

Khai was confined to the detention center with a $40,000 secured bond.

Shearin and Khai both April 22 court dates.

Wilson Dominique Green, 19, of Weldon was at the residence during the search warrant.

Green was arrested for an outstanding Halifax County order for arrest.

Green was confined to jail with a $300 secured bond and an April 10 court date.
