An undercover sting Tuesday landed a sex offender in trouble with the law after arranging a meeting with someone he believed was to be a girl.

Laster

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a statement the investigation that led to the arrest of 29-year-old Titus Alexander Laster of Littleton began with Deputy J.N. Sampson exploring his use of a social media website.

During the investigation Laster initiated a conversation with an undercover agent and agreed to meet.

Sergeant S. Rodwell and the City County Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation by arresting Laster at the designated meeting place.

Hall could not say whether Laster was going to the rendezvous point thinking he was going to meet an underaged girl, instead explaining the point in the operation is that sex offenders are forbidden from using social media.

Laster was charged with failure to register; sex offender using social networking; failure to disclose online identifiers and possession of marijuana.

He was jailed on $12,000 secured bond and assigned an April 15 court date.
