Roanoke Rapids police confirmed a woman was thrown from a vehicle Friday night and continue to investigate to determine whether she was also run over.

Chief Chuck Hasty said the victim is OK following treatment and a man, Michael Lee Mitchell, 45, has been arrested.

He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon; hit and run with serious injury; driving while license revoked and DWI.

The charges stem from a call police received around 9 p.m. at Carriage Hill Apartments on West Fourth Street, the nature of the call a fight.

Officer Ryan Cross arrived and heard screaming and saw a woman on the ground.

EMS transported the victim to the emergency room of Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Hasty said the matter was prompted by a domestic dispute. He has an April 10 court date.

 

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett, Sergeant Richie White, Master Officer Chris Babb and Officer Gerald Morris assisted in the investigation.
