A father and son were arrested for marijuana possession as well as possession anti-anxiety medications following a traffic stop this morning.
The City County Drug Task Force operation that led to the arrests of David Lynn Carter and Corey Carter was one that included traffic enforcement throughout the county, according to Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty.
At approximately 9 a.m., task force Agent Corey Dixon stopped a vehicle on Old Farm Road for a traffic violation.
Dixon spoke with the elder Carter, 44, and the younger Carter, 25, both of Roanoke Rapids.
Dixon found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle during the stop.
Dixon arrested and charged David Carter with possession of schedule VI, driving while license revoked, simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance — Buspirone Hydrochloride and Clonazepam — prescription label violation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Corey Carter was charged with possession of schedule VI, allowing unlicensed person to drive, simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance, prescription label violation and possess marijuana paraphernalia.
The Carters were given $3,000 bonds and April 8 court dates.
Task force Agent D.R. Radford and Roanoke Rapids Police Department Officer Jeffrey Mason assisted during the traffic stop.
Other citations were issued during traffic enforcement for no insurance and driving while license revoked during the traffic stops.
