The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:
Friday
Officer Adam Salmon responded to the 1300 block of Roanoke Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on a disturbance call.
He reportedly found Herman Blount Jr,, 53 of Gaston in the roadway, impeding the flow of traffic. Salmon arrested and charged Blount with intoxicated and disruptive behavior. He was given a $500 bond and a court date of February 20.
Around 7 p.m., Master Officer Roy Ball was investigating a harassing phone complaint at a residence in the 100 block of Washington Street.
During the investigation Ball spoke with Andrea Alston, 41, of Roanoke Rapids.
He found her to reportedly be in possession of marijuana. Ball cited Alston for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Saturday
Around 11:30 a,m, officers responded to the 100 block of Madison Street for shots being fired in the area.
Lieutenant Perry Parks was the first officer to arrive and made contact with some individuals.
One of the individuals started to walk away and Salmon stopped Maleek Hockaday, 19, of Roanoke Rapids.
A gun was reportedly found in his possession.
Salmon arrested and charged Hockaday with carrying a concealed weapon. Hockaday was given written promise to appear in court on February 20.
Around 1 a.m., Ball arrested and charged Andrew Mayton ,29, of Roanoke Rapids, with disorderly conduct. Mayton was reportedly arrested after he refused to leave an area and began cursing at law enforcement.
Mayton was given a $20,000 bond and a court date of March 2.
Deputy Chief Andy Jackson assisted with this arrest.
Around 8 p.m,. Sergeant Daniel Jenkins responded to Walmart for a larceny. After speaking with loss prevention, Jenkins cited Brandy Leigh Ogburn, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, for larceny and possession of stolen goods. She was given a February 9 court date.
Sunday
Around 12:30 p.m., Salmon responded to the 1000 block of Green Street for an assault.
Salmon spoke with Amanda Leigh Frye, 23, and Kathy Whitby Love, 53, both of Roanoke Rapids. During the investigation Salmon reportedly observed injuries to both individuals.
He charged both with simple affray.
Frye and Love were given a written promise to appear in court on February 20.
Officer Jeffrey Mason assisted in the investigation and arrest.
Around 3:30 p.m., Sergeant Mike Moseley was on routine patrol on Old Farm Road when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the residential area.
When Moseley attempted to get the vehicle stopped, it sped off at a high rate of speed turning onto Dunshill Road then turning on Hunting Ridge Road where the driver left the vehicle on Cambridge Court.
The driver, identified as Leshante Dominique Vaughan, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, ran from the area.
Moseley and other units were unable to locate the man after a search of the nearby neighborhoods.
Moseley obtained warrants on Vaughan and around 7 p.m. he surrendered at the police department.
He was charged with flee to elude arrest, speeding, fail to stop at stop sign, fail to heed to lights and siren, and reckless driving.
Vaughan was given a $60,000 bond and a court date of February 18.
