The Jackson Police Department and State Bureau of Investigation arson specialists are investigating a house fire that occurred early this morning.
Chief John Young said he has a possible motive and a person of interest he wants to talk to, but declined to immediately elaborate.
The Jackson Volunteer Fire Department received the call of a structure fire around 1:45 this morning. “They did a great job,” Young said, responding within two minutes after receiving the call and containing damage to two rooms.
He said firefighters were able to save the shell of the structure, a wood-framed house on 403 East Jefferson Street. He said only two rooms had significant damage.
He said the fire was deemed suspicious by the way it started and where it started. He would only say the fire started in a den and a bedroom.
Investigation continues, Young said, and evidence has been sent to the SBI lab.
