A Monday night checking station in the Wallace Fork Road area netted the seizure of 12 grams of packaged marijuana, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.
Major Scott Hall said in a statement that around 9 p.m. Deputy Matt Brown encountered Richard Lamar Shearin Jr., the driver of a passenger vehicle. During the stop at the checkpoint Brown reportedly detected the odor of marijuana. Further investigation led to the discovery of the marijuana, which was packaged in 10 separate baggies.
Shearin was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of marijuana following the investigation, which occurred near the intersection of County and Wallace Fork roads just outside Weldon.
He was jailed on $2,000 secured bond and has a September 3 court date.
