A man charged late Thursday with an attack and robbery in Thelma Road area in May was originally arrested by Roanoke Rapids police with assault and battery.

Captain Andy Jackson said Jonathan Pilgrim, 27, was arrested by Officer Chris Biggerstaff late Thursday afternoon in the Southgate community after he reportedly hit the victim in the face.

It was not clear what provoked the assault, Jackson said.

Pilgrim had been wanted by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office for allegedly assaulting a victim and then using his financial card at Walmart in Rocky Mount has been arrested.

The sheriff's office received information on the identities of Pilgrim and Marquita Williams, 22, both of Roanoke Rapids, through multiple phone calls and Crimestoppers tips after their photos were released to news outlets. Further investigation led to warrants being taken out on them from the assault and robbery that occurred in late May.

The sheriff's office charged Pilgrim with robbery with a dangerous weapon, financial card theft, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was jailed on $21,000 bond and has a September 3 court date.
