A Fayetteville man was charged today with allegedly attacking and cutting a friend in the neck and chest.

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith said the attack occurred on Highway 35 in the Woodland area as Taylor Lee Hepner, 20, and his friend were walking around 1 a.m.

Initial investigation by deputies William James and Jeff Barnes revealed that the victim stated he was walking down the highway with Hepner when he was attacked, the victim sustaining lacerations to the neck and chest with a sharp object.

Hepner reportedly fled the scene. Further investigation by Detective Courtney Williams and information received by the deputies indicated Hepner was walking down Ashley Grove Road where he was located.

Williams arrested and charged Hepner with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

It is not clear what prompted the reputed attack.

The victim is OK and Hepner was jailed on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court June 23.
