The Halifax County Sheriff's Office collected numerous pills and liquid medications during its pill take back program in Littleton Saturday.

Sheriff Wes Tripp said drugs collected included painkillers such as morphine and Oxycodone.

The sheriff's office collected 11,748 pills, 45 veterinary pills, and 955 liquids at the Littleton Volunteer Fire Department.

Businesses were supportive of the effort, Tripp said in a statement. “The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office posted several flyers throughout the Littleton Community and in local businesses.

“The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office hold these events several times throughout the county to prevent accidental poisonings, abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Thanks again to the local businesses that posted the flyer for this event.”
