The Halifax County Sheriff's Office has persons of interest who are believed to be involved in the shooting death of a 23-year-old man Wednesday night.
Sheriff Wes Tripp said Alvin Pierce Jr. was found dead in his vehicle after deputies responded to what was initially a car wreck call on Cottonwood Road near the old airport shortly before 10 p.m.
While going to the car wreck, deputies were told shots were fired. They found Pierce dead when they arrived at the scene.
Tripp declined to elaborate on how many shots were fired and what kind of weapon was used.
The motivation remains under investigation.
The state Highway Patrol confirmed this morning there was no collision and that the call was part of the murder investigation.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
