After his arrest this afternoon, Kenneth Calvin Morris Jr., 27, reportedly kicked a laptop stand in the patrol car he was escorted to while handcuffed.

His arrest occurred around 12:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Henry Street when, through investigation, the city police department learned he was at an apartment there, Captain Andy Jackson said.

The department's Special Response Team, Criminal Investigation Division and uniformed officers of D Squad converged at 321 Henry Street to serve an order for arrest for a North Carolina probation violation and fugitive warrants involving a rape that reportedly occurred in Pennsylvania, where Morris is originally from.

Morris was located in an adjacent apartment that he reportedly gained access to by using the attic crawl space, taking a 3-year-old child with him.

The child is believed to his girlfriend's, Jackson said.

Morris reportedly “went wild in the car,” kicking the laptop stand.

Roanoke Rapids police charged Morris with kidnapping; breaking and entering; resisting arrest and criminal damage to property.

He was served fugitive warrants for conspiracy to commit rape; rape; criminal conspiracy; unlawful restraint; sexual assault; indecent assault and simple assault.

For the Roanoke Rapids charges and fugitive warrants, he was given a $300,000 secured bond. He was given a $2,500 bond for the order for arrest. Extradition is possible, Jackson said.

Morris is listed as an absconder by the state Department of Public Safety and has a lengthy criminal record in North Carolina dating back to 2003.
