More than $1,000 in cell phones were taking following a break-in at U.S. Cellular on Premier Boulevard Sunday night.

Roanoke Rapids police said Officer J.A. Salmon responded to a breaking and entering in progress call shortly before 11:30 and found the front door had been broken out.

A person was seen leaving the area. He was wearing black shorts with white stripes, a long-sleeved white T-shirt and dark-colored shoes.

A canine track by Officer Gerald Morris and his dog Dozer ended in the Fourth Avenue area.

It was unclear whether more than one person was involved.
