Jack Smith will retain his seat as sheriff in Northampton County, beating challenger and former Detective Brenda Burnette, 3,247 to 1,325.
Smith collected 71.02 percent of the vote in an election that saw nearly 33 percent of the county's registered voters go to the polls.
Smith could not immediately be reached for comment this evening.
