A Garysburg man was jailed on $300,000 bond today after he was charged on sexual assault counts involving a child under 13.

Detective Chris Scott of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the charges are based on an investigation into a 2010 matter that allegedly occurred in Roanoke Rapids.

Albert Harper, 51, faces charges of first-degree rape and indecent liberties with a child in the case where he allegedly sexually assaulted the juvenile.

He awaits an April 30 court date.
