Eleven Vidant Health nurses, including one from Halifax Regional, have been named to the Great 100 Nurses class of 2019.

The Vidant nurses chosen for the honor exemplify continued professional growth, inspiring those around them with their commitment to improving the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina, Vidant said in a statement.

The Great 100 Nurses nonprofit organization offers the annual honor as a way for peers to recognize and promote nursing excellence throughout the state of North Carolina. Each honoree will be recognized at a gala event on Saturday at the Concord Convention Center in Concord, North Carolina.

The Vidant Health nurses chosen this year are:

Barbara Moore, MSN, RN, is the director of Patient Care Services at Halifax Regional Medical Center. Barbara has been with Halifax Regional for 32 years and has been in her current role for eight years. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Halifax Community College, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from East Carolina University and a master’s degree in nursing from American Sentinel. Barbara is a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association.

Kelly Allis, MSN, RNC-NIC, is a staff nurse IV in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center. Kelly has been with Vidant for 16 years and has been in her current role for two years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Barton College and her master’s degree in nursing with a concentration in nursing education from East Carolina University. Kelly is a certified S.T.A.B.L.E. instructor, a neonatal resuscitation instructor and certified in neonatal intensive care nursing and is a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Cathy Bunch, MSN, RN, CRRN, is a professional development specialist for nursing at Vidant Medical Center. Cathy has been with Vidant for 25 years and has been in her current role for five and a half years. She earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in nursing from East Carolina University. Cathy is a certified rehabilitation registered nurse and is a member of the Association of Nursing Professional Development, Sigma Theta Tau International, Association of Rehabilitation Nursing and the Greater N.C. Chapter of Association Rehabilitation Nursing.

Glenda Flemmings, BSN, RN-BC, PCCN, is an assistant nurse manager in the General Surgery Intermediate Unit at Vidant Medical Center. She has been with Vidant for 13 years and recently transitioned to the ANM role. Glenda earned a bachelor’s in nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing and a diploma from the University Hospital of the West Indies School of Nursing in Jamaica. She holds certifications in progressive care nursing, medical-surgical nursing and advanced cardiac life support. Glenda is a member of the American Nurses Association, North Carolina Nurses Association and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

Kathy Gilbert, BSN, RN-BC, is a patient care coordinator at Vidant Medical Center. She has been with Vidant for 24 years and recently transitioned to her current role. Kathy earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from East Carolina University. She is medical-surgical certified and is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Pirate Nurse Network and the American Association of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Amy Hines, BSN, RN, CEN, is a staff nurse IV in the Minor Emergency Department at Vidant Medical Center. Amy has been with Vidant for 16 years and has been in her current role for 14 years. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Pitt Community College and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Mount Olive. Amy is certified as an emergency nurse, advanced cardiac life support instructor, basic life support instructor, emergency nursing pediatric course instructor and trauma nursing core course instructor. She is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association.

Tracy Langston, MSN, RN-BC, RNC-NIC, is an education specialist for nursing at Vidant Medical Center. Tracy has been with Vidant for 14 years and has been in her current role for three years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a master’s degree in nursing from East Carolina University. Tracy is certified in neonatal intensive care, board certified in nursing professional development, certified instructor for neonatal resuscitation, basic life support, and certified for the S.T.A.B.L.E. program. Tracy is a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association, Association for Nursing Professional Development, and Sigma Theta Tau International.

Chelsea Passwater, MSN, RN, AGCNS-BC, OCN, is a clinical nurse specialist at Vidant Cancer Care at Vidant Medical Center. Chelsea has been with Vidant for eight years and has been in her current role for two years. She earned a bachelor’s degree as well as a master’s degree in nursing from East Carolina University. Chelsea is a certified oncology nurse and is board certified as an adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, North Carolina Nurses Association, National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and Sigma Theta Tau.

Cindy Simmons, BSN, RN-BC, is a patient care coordinator at Vidant Medical Center. She has been with Vidant for 26 years and recently transitioned to her current role. Cindy earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from East Carolina University. She is board certified in medical-surgical nursing and was previously certified in bariatric nursing. Cindy is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Jill Wiggins, ADN, RN, is a staff nurse II in the Special Care Nursery at the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at Vidant Medical Center. She has been with Vidant for 31 years and has been in her current role for 19 years. Jill earned an associate’s degree in nursing from the University of Las Vegas,Nevada. She is certified in neonatal touch and massage and is a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.

Harriett Wilder, ADN, RN, is a staff nurse II in the Neuroscience Intermediate Unit at Vidant Medical Center. Harriett has been with Vidant for 16 years and has been in her current role for nine years. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Pitt Community College. Harriett holds a certification in Stroke and Advanced Cardiac Life Support and is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
