Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls Troops NC-0100 are holding their annual recruitment meeting Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 715 Jackson Street in Roanoke Rapids.

The organizations are for boys and girls ages 5-18.

Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls teaches young men and women adventure, character, and leadership through a program centering on outdoor experiences that builds life skills and allows them to grow on a personal level and as a role model and leader for their peers.

The mission of Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls is to guide generations of young men and women to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure.  The program welcomes boys and girls whose parents are seeking a faith-based outdoor adventure program that places an emphasis on character development, leadership, and moral purity, and who aspire to live in accordance with the values expressed in the program’s oath and creed.

The organizations offer hiking, canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, cycling, skiing, shooting sports, swimming, and camping.

These programs offer badges and ranks centered on STEM initiatives. Programs in rocketry, robotics, geology, and engineering are part of the curriculum.

Another major focus is on community service.  Many opportunities are provided to teach youth the importance of doing things for others and how doing so contributes to the overall success of the community.

American Heritage Girls Unit Leader Ann Hudomint said, “the main thing is for youth to come to have a great time and know that they will have the opportunity to be part of a very high-energy program that will be hands-on and active, but above all else, safe and fun.”

Said Joe Long, charter organization representative, “One of the most important aspects of the troop’s program is community service and teaching the youth about the importance of giving back to others.”

As youth progress upwards through the ranks and earn their advancements, many hours of community service are required.

Troop member Ethan Rountree says he enjoys “the ability to work with others and to know that what he is doing is making a difference.”

Troop member Gabrielle Long echoed that sentiment saying “being part of this organization is not just about fun but also about learning about others and having a sense of belonging.”

The programs can be explored online at www.traillifeusa.com and at www.ahgonline.org where information is available for review.
