The developer of a high-end apartment complex on Cross Creek Parkway has withdrawn his rezoning request from further consideration by the city, Roanoke Rapids Planning and Development Director Kelly Lasky told council at its work session this evening.
Following the meeting Lasky said MaSuki Incorporated of Camden pulled the request because a study showed there wasn't enough need in Roanoke Rapids for the potential high-end apartments the developer wanted to build after going through the rezoning process.
Lasky said the study did not take into consideration demographics from the lake community.
Ellen Heaton, who is listing the property, said this evening, “It's a lost opportunity.”
The apartments were to consist of 250 units with a clubhouse and exercise room, business center, pool, social area and theater room. Other amenities were included.
