A Garysburg man allegedly responsible for a rash of breaking, entering and larcenies, mostly during daylight hours, has been arrested and is in jail on $520,000 bond.
Chief Deputy Wes Tripp of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Christopher O’Brian West, 31, was arrested in the area of a break-in Thursday. The sheriff’s office put together extra details and enlisted the help of the state Highway Patrol to stem the break-ins, which have been occurring since April 9. West was located in an area near Reser’s Fine Foods.
Tripp said several thousand dollars worth of items ranging from chainsaws and televisions to firearms were stolen in the Roanoke Rapids, Littleton, Halifax and Enfield areas of the county.
Some property has been recovered and returned to the victims. Deputies are still in the process of attempting to recover additional property, Tripp said.
It is believed West allegedly acted alone.
He faces 12 counts of breaking and entering, 11 counts of larceny after breaking and entering, 11 counts of felony possession of stolen goods, seven counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, six counts of larceny of a firearm and four counts of possession of a stolen firearm.
Tripp said a break in the case came from the hard work of deputies under the leadership of lieutenants Rich Somogyi and Neil Aycock.
West is scheduled to appear in court August 21.
