A Durham man is in jail on $1 million bond after allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old Halifax County girl he met on social networking sites.

The Durham Police Department Monday picked up 22-year-old Jeremy Jones on Halifax County Sheriff’s Office warrants for statutory rape and kidnapping and a Durham County magistrate assigned the $1 million bond that remains in place in Halifax County.

Lieutenant Roy Rooks of the sheriff’s office said Jones was arrested based on investigation of a June 6 complaint by the girl’s parents.

The investigation allegedly revealed that Jones met the girl using the social networking sites Facebook and MocoSpace. He later allegedly came to the Enfield area and picked the girl up and had sexual intercourse with her.

Rooks said he followed a paper trail on the social networking sites and believes the two had been conversing through the sites numerous times before Jones went to Enfield.

Jones has a September 11 court date.
