A two-month investigation based on citizen complaints and officer investigation netted two arrests and the seizure of 296 grams of marijuana today.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office executed the two search warrants on Lodge Street in the Enfield town limits with assistance from the town’s police department and state Highway Patrol.

Lieutenant Anzell Harris of the sheriff’s office said in a press release the search warrants were executed around 3 p.m. They were granted based on complaints and investigation by narcotics Agent A.C. Dickens.

The search warrants led to the arrest of Vermel Jeremaine Fenner and Melvin Lee Evans, both 29.

Fenner allegedly had approximately 296 grams of marijuana as well as plastic bags and digital scales during the search.

He was charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance.

Evans allegedly had six individually wrapped bags of marijuana and a digital scale. He was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Fenner was jailed on a $20,000 secured bond while Evans was given a $5,000 secured bond. Both men have September 4 court dates.
