The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal crash which occurred over the weekend near Highway 561 in the Enfield area.

Sergeant A.S. Genao said Sergeant G.M. Moore’s investigation shows the driver of a Ford pickup was traveling south on State Road 1204 about a mile south of Highway 561 when they went left of center and overcorrected.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road to the left a second time and hit a ditch. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn several times and catch fire.

The driver was deceased at the scene.

The medical examiner is doing a DNA test to confirm the identity of the driver.
