The city now has a budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The financial plan unanimously approved by council tonight includes tweaks presented at its work session last week.
The total budget stands at $14,890,339 and there is no tax increase.
City Manager Joseph Scherer told council, “This is still a hold-the-line budget,” that was balanced between capital needs and personnel benefits.
Scherer said the financial plan includes certain goals without increasing the tax rate and includes a 30 percent fund balance.
The city manager credited Finance Director MeLinda Hite and her staff for coming up with the budget.
Scherer warned, however, the city would have to watch revenues closely as state lawmakers work on a tax reform package that could take away $60,000 in state hold harmless funds for sales tax revenue losses.
“Thank you and Ms. Hite for being able to bring a budget where we don’t have to have a tax increase,” Mayor Emery Doughtie said. “We contended with an eight to nine percent fund balance and got it up to a respectable amount.”
