Halifax County commissioners today recognized the impending retirement of Sheriff Jeff Frazier, whose 16-year tour of duty is completed at the end of this month.
Board Chairman James Pierce presented Frazier with a resolution and watch and County Manager Tony Brown presented the sheriff with his service weapon.
“This has been a longtime coming,” Frazier said following the presentations, noting the only person he has continually worked with in county administration since beginning his career was Finance Director Linda Taylor. “I’ve watched county managers come and go and commissioners come and ago. It’s been scared times and proud times. It’s been a pleasure to serve you.”
Commissioner Vernon Bryant and Frazier went to school and played basketball for Weldon High together. “I appreciate all he’s done for the community,” Bryant said.
The sheriff’s resolution notes he has spent more than 30 years in local government in Halifax County, 16 of those as sheriff. “Jeff has also served in many positions of honor in the community and state as well as being a dedicated servant to the citizens of Halifax County.”
Commissioners in closed session today were expected to discuss setting up interviews with the candidates as well as going over criteria to make that decision at the board’s first meeting in July, Pierce said.
