An arrest has been made in a May 18 shooting that was reported after the parties involved wrecked on the way to take the victim to the hospital.

Detective O.B. Wiltsie of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office charged Clarence McCoy Bailey Jr. today with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The shooting occurred inside the town of Littleton but the sheriff’s office took over investigation of the case at the request of the town’s police department.

Bailey, 32, of Littleton was taking the victim to the hospital when he wrecked at the intersection of Roper Springs and Justice Branch roads.

Wiltsie said this evening Bailey allegedly shot the victim after the two had been drinking and words were exchanged.

Alcohol also played a part in the wreck, Wiltsie said.

Bailey was arrested this afternoon without incident and was jailed on $25,000 bond. He is awaiting a July 17 court date.

The victim, who was shot in the leg, was released from the hospital.
