A motorcycle crash near Littleton off Highway 158 is the first reported Memorial Day weekend fatality in the area, according to the state Highway Patrol.
The fatality occurred on Summit Road shortly before 6:15 this evening when Darin Bryant Boyd, 42, was coming off a curve at an estimated 100 miles per hour, Trooper J.D. Warren said.
Boyd, who is from the area but recently moved to Brooklyn, New York, ran off the road to the left on a Kawasaki 650 R sports bike. The motorcycle struck a tree and ejected Boyd from the bike. He landed on the left shoulder. Warren said it appears the man died of internal injuries at the scene.
It was not clear whether Boyd was an experienced motorcycle rider. He borrowed the bike from a friend to take a ride, Warren said.
While the Highway Patrol will request a toxicology screen, Warren said he doesn’t believe alcohol was a contributing factor.
