A man picked up on a probation violation today now faces a marijuana charge after jailers found pot in his pocket.

Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office charged Travis Bennett, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, with possession of a controlled substance on prison-jail premises.

Bennett was turned over to the county detention center after he was picked up on a probation violation.

It was there the marijuana was found.

His bond was set at $5,000 and he has a June 5 court date.
