The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Chief Deputy Scott Hall:

On August 8 deputies responded to a robbery and shooting call in the Airport Road area of Roanoke Rapids.

Detective R.B. Biggerstaff found an undisclosed amount of money was stolen and two people were shot. 

Both victims were transported to an undisclosed medical facility and were treated for non-life threatening injuries. They are in good condition, Hall said this afternoon.

During the investigation, two persons of interest were developed and warrants were obtained. Daquan Lamont Harris, 22, of Garysburg, was charged with conspiracy, robbery with a dangerous weapon and aid and abet robbery. He was arrested Saturday and received a $50,000 bond. He has a September 17 court date.

Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office continues to look for Motique Desmond Jackson, 26, of Weldon, who faces the same charges as Harris. 

Hall said Jackson tends to frequent areas of Roanoke Rapids and Weldon.

Motive in the case was robbery to obtain money. The victims are believed to be familiar with the men charged.

Sunday shortly before 11 p.m., Deputy B.J. Murphy initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Zoo Road and Highway 158 for a motor vehicle violation. 

During the stop, the driver handed Sergeant A. Cash and Murphy a plastic bag of marijuana. 

A search of the vehicle was conducted where more narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found. Hall said the other drugs seized fell into the schedule II category.

Murphy arrested and charged Jessica Leigh Merritt, 33, of Roanoke Rapids, with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, simple possession of schedule II, simple possession of schedule VI, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

She posted a $2,000 bond with a September 9 court date pending.
