The Roanoke Avenue Business Alliance will be a part of the Fridays in the Park concert series this year.
The concert series begins the last Friday in April and subsequently will be held on the last Fridays in May, June and July, Main Street Director Sherry Hux said at Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
“We’re very excited about the lineup,” she said. “We’re placing an emphasis on local talent.”

Futrell
The series begins with local American Idol contestants Vernon Futrell of Seaboard and Kenny Harrison of Woodland at 6 p.m. in Centennial Park between the post office and Roanoke Rapids Fire Department.
In May Rich Square group Eyes of Emiline will perform. Lance Jenkins performs in June and the series ends in July with a gospel concert with the Mighty Men of Valor and the Gospel Sensations.

Eyes of Emiline
“It’s good that RABA wants to be a part of Fridays in the Park and getting the avenue involved,” Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation Director John Simeon said today.
In another matter Tuesday, Hux said the farmer’s market at the square at Kirkwood Adams Community Center would begin May 6 and run through October. The time is from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Monday.
Hux also announced Veronica Holcomb will be volunteering her time as an administrative assistant for the alliance and that Halifax Community College was continuing to work on a logo and branding for the organization.
