A Littleton man died and two others were critically injured and flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville following a one-vehicle crash on Sam Powell Dairy Road this morning.
The driver of the Toyota Four Runner, Crystal Boswell, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with DWI and driving while license revoked, according to Trooper J.D. Warren of the state Highway Patrol. Further charges are pending against her, the trooper said.
Michael Bowden, 30, from what Warren can determine at this point, was the passenger in the right rear of the vehicle and died after being ejected.
Boswell was traveling west on Sam Powell Dairy Road near Farley Circle shortly after 1 a.m. when she ran off the road to the right and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to run off the road to the left. The vehicle struck a ditch and overturned several times. Bowden, Montrae Whitaker, 26, of Littleton, and Jazmine Hooten, 16, of Roanoke Rapids, were ejected from the vehicle. Whitaker and Hooten were both flown to Vidant.
Boswell was the only person wearing a seatbelt in the vehicle. She was treated and released and blood was drawn to determine her alcohol content, Warren said.
Boswell had just come out of a curve when she lost control of vehicle.
It is unclear where the people had been before the crash or where they were going.
Warren said he would consult with the Halifax County District Attorney’s Office to determine further charges.
Boswell has a June 10 court date.
