The man involved in a Sunday night wreck on Interstate 95 was treated and released from Vidant hospital, according to the investigating trooper.

Trooper W.T. Smith of the state Highway Patrol said Richard C. Russell, 58, of Cary, sustained cuts to his head and required stitches after he wrecked his vehicle on the Roanoke River Bridge shortly before 8 p.m.

Smith said evidence shows Russell ran off the road to the right and then hit the left side of the bridge. There was no evidence to suggest another vehicle was involved.

Russell was airlifted to Vidant in Greenville but was never admitted following treatment, Smith said.

Smith continues to investigate to determine whether charges will be filed.
