Two men have been charged with stealing more than a mile of utility wire off poles in rural Halifax County.

Kevin Munn of Littleton and Sherman Eugene West of Henderson also face the same counts in Vance County and Warren County. They are currently jailed in Warren County.
Detective R. Somogyi of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said he received the first report of wire being cut from utility poles in September.
Investigation revealed the wire was sold to salvage yards in Wake and Halifax counties.
In some cases the wire was cut from poles by the roadway while in other cases it was cut from poles going through wooded areas.
In one case 10,000 feet of wire was stolen in Halifax County and in another case about a half-mile of wire was taken as well as instances of 800 and 4,000 feet, Somogyi said.
Further investigation revealed incidents reported in Vance, Warren and Edgecombe counties.
Munn, 25, and West, 31, face Halifax County charges of four counts of felony larceny and four counts of possession of stolen goods.
In all the cases they face 15 to 20 charges.
Both men were arrested this week and Munn was jailed on $250,000 bond and West on $305,000 bond.
Somogyi the bonds were set high because they face multiple counts.
The men have March 6 court dates in Halifax County.
Additional arrests are pending.
