The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office has called in the State Bureau of Investigation after a Halifax County Sheriff’s Office narcotics agent was shot at this morning during a search warrant execution.
Agent A.M. Harris and Detective H.L. Williams returned fire, killing the suspect, according to Chief Deputy Wes Tripp.
Tripp declined to immediately release the name of the deceased.
The shooting occurred at Straight Road off Highway 48 in a mobile home court near Rhea Smith Road.
Narcotics agents and deputies were at the residence serving a search warrant when they were fired upon.
Harris and Williams returned fire, killing the suspect. The shootout occurred inside the mobile home.
The sheriff’s office has called for the SBI shoot team to investigate and process the crime scene.
