Halifax County’s new emergency management coordinator began her duties this week.

Lynn Manning-Armstrong of Weldon replaces Tina Hinton who retired earlier this year, according to a press release from the county.

Manning-Armstrong was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and holds a bachelor degree in criminal justice from the University of Maryland and a professional development series certificate from the Emergency Management Institute.

Manning-Armstrong has extensive experience in the emergency management field, spending 11 years with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in individual and public assistance recovery operations providing program management, training, damage assessment and completion and review of grant applications for local funding throughout the country.

“We are delighted to have Ms. Armstrong as part of our team,” County Manager Tony Brown said in the press release, “and look forward to benefitting from her extensive emergency management experience.”

She resides in Weldon with her husband, John.
