The Roanoke Rapids Police Club is flipping on The Switch.
This will be the last benefit for the Christmas for Kids effort where members of the club on December 15 take area children out for lunch at Logan’s and then a shopping spree at Walmart, said Captain Andy Jackson.
The final benefit concert featuring the popular Top 40 and classic rock band will be December 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Royal Palace Theatre. General admission tickets are $10 and can be bought the night of the show, at the theater box office or through the theater’s website.
The Switch, Jackson said, is known throughout Eastern North Carolina as a band that blends classic rock, Top 40, hip-hop and Beach Music.
“We feel like any investment that we can make in our youth will help develop a progressive, well-rounded and diverse community,” Jackson said. “Just going out in the streets, going into homes, the economic downturn in general we can see where it has taken a toll. More and more people are having to go without.”
This is the second concert the theater has agreed to help the police club with. “What we have found working along side the new theater team is they are really down to earth people who really care about our community and want to be involved in our community. Any time you see business people come to your town and basically open their arms to the community it’s a good thing.”
Theater Manager Kaine Riggan said helping the police club is a good outreach effort for the venue. “The local police ensure our safety and we keep a good name in the community. It’s a big part of our success.”
Jackson is hopeful the concert will not only help this year’s Christmas for Kids effort, but leave seed money for next year’s event.
He believes The Switch concert is the right ticket for the effort. “They have a vast set list and really do a good job.”
The entire police department has gotten behind the effort, Jackson said. “The entire police department has worked diligently in assisting the police club with these projects.”
