Thus far, Kenneth Lewis Brooks has been charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of a stolen weapon.

This, however, according to Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Jeff Hinton, is only the opening round of charges against the man who allegedly operated a 3,000 square feet indoor growing operation in the third floor of 300 Roanoke Avenue.

Investigators continue to pore through evidence and facts in the case, Hinton said this morning. “We’re meticulously going through evidence and still sorting things out.”

Hinton said police still have no answer on why an apparent Ku Klux Klan robe and hood were inside the building.

Most of the evidence was specifically associated with the indoor growing of marijuana — lamps, hydroponic trays and invertors.

Officers also carried out a large amount of marijuana in a plastic trash bag.

The discovery of the operation was uncovered Tuesday when officers searching the former Harding and Grizzard building at 298 Roanoke Avenue discovered links in possession to the buildings.

Brooks, who is on probation for dog baiting back in April, is currently in custody.
