Halifax County commissioners Monday night appointed Doris Hawkins as tax coordinator to replace Pam Harris, who is retiring at the end of this month.

Hawkins is no stranger to Halifax County as she has been employed there for more than 13 years, currently serving as the GIS coordinator, which is located within the tax department.

She is a Halifax County native and a 1987 graduate of Halifax Academy.

Hawkins has completed training for property tax listing, assessing and collecting. She has also completed training in personal property appraisal.

“Doris not only has the experience and qualifications making her the best candidate for the position, but as she knows the staff and many of our citizens, we expect a seamless transition as she begins serving as our tax coordinator,” County Manager Tony Brown said in a news release.

Hawkins lives in Littleton with her husband, Taylor, and their two children.
