Chief Deputy Wes Tripp of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Omar Daquan Ponton is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Ponton is wanted for an armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot of Three Flags store when the two victims pulled into the store in their vehicle.

Investigation by Deputy Graham Page revealed that one victim entered the store and when he returned to his vehicle was rushed by three people who jumped in the vehicle.

The three men were armed, two with pistols and one with an assault rifle.

One victim identified Ponton, 19. The suspects demanded that the victims drive to an undisclosed address in Weldon.

While driving, Ponton continually beat one of the victims in the back of the head with the butt end of a rifle.

Once arriving at the address, one of the victims was pulled from the vehicle and kicked several times.

Money and other personal items were stolen and then the suspects fled on foot.

Warrants were filed for Ponton’s arrest on charges of kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.

These are in addition to warrants on file for a matter in October in which Ponton and Vontray Hughes allegedly fired shots into a moving vehicle.

The victims in the case returned to the store and called law enforcement.

Anyone with any information on Ponton is encouraged to contact the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers 252-583-4444.
