Two Roanoke Rapids men were arrested Wednesday on marijuana charges after a half-pound of pot was found in their vehicle.

City police department narcotics detectives Jamie Hardy and Daniel Hundley observed a vehicle being operated recklessly on Becker Drive when the driver attempted to improperly pass another vehicle.

Hardy and Hundley stopped the vehicle around 4:30 p.m. and discovered a half-pound of marijuana in the car. They also discovered more than $2,000 in currency.

The detectives charged Mack Donald Taylor, 34, of Piedmont Court, with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Taylor received a $15,000 bond.

Stephen Clanton, 35, of Church Street was charged with possession of marijuana and received a $1,000 bond.

Major Tommy Hathaway said it was possible the men had allegedly returned from a buy.
