A Roanoke Rapids man has been charged on several counts for allegedly sending lewd and suggestive text messages to a 15-year-old boy.

Raymond Michael Baker, 42, faces charges of indecent liberties with a minor and participating in the prostitution of a minor.

After those two charges were lodged against him, he was later served an additional warrant by Raleigh police for disseminating obscene material to a minor.

Major Tommy Hathaway of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said on September 26 a family friend reported to police Baker allegedly sent lewd and suggestive text messages to a child.

Due to this complaint an investigation was launched and on September 28 a search warrant was obtained for 619 Park Avenue.

Baker was taken into custody and charged with indecent liberties with a minor and participating in the prostitution of a minor.  Hathaway said the prostitution charge involves asking money for certain photographs. The indecent liberties charge alleges physical contact with the child.

He was jailed on $50,000 bond and was released.

After further investigation, an additional charge of disseminating obscene material to a minor was lodged.

Raleigh police served that warrant because Baker works in Raleigh. An additional $10,000 bond was given and Baker has an October 17 court date.
